Securing the Future: Holistic Approach to Mental Health for Generations

Welcome to the 2nd Kenya National Mental Health conference, under the theme “Securing the Future: Holistic Approach to Mental Health for Generations”. The conference aims to build on the inaugural conference momentum to ensure that mental health needs of Kenyans are addressed through a holistic and intergenerational approach. The conference will bring together various stakeholders to discuss the emerging issues and hence create a roadmap to a mentally healthy future for all Kenyans. It will be an opportunity to explore innovative strategies, best practices, and evidence-based interventions, and innovative programs, advocate for investment, and foster collaboration to promote mental health across the lifespan.

The inaugural Kenya National Mental Health Conference was held in November 2019. The conference highlighted the importance of collaborative efforts in addressing mental health challenges.

Event Logistics

How to Get to KICC:

  • Distance: 18 km (approx. 20-30 minutes by car depending on traffic).
  • Options:
    • Taxi/Cab Services: You can use services like Uber, Bolt, or Little Cabs. Airport taxis are also available at the arrivals terminal.
    • Shuttle Services: Some hotels offer shuttle services to and from the airport. Confirm with your hotel in advance.
    • Public Transport: Board a Matatu (minibus) from JKIA to Nairobi City Center. Alight at Kencom Stage, which is a short walk to KICC (approximately 500m).
  • Walking: KICC is a central location within walking distance from key landmarks such as Kencom Bus Station (5-10 minutes) and Nairobi Railway Station (15 minutes).
  • Taxi/Cab Services: Uber, Bolt, or Little Cabs are available for short trips around the city.
  • Taxi/Cab Services: Most hotels in the central business district (CBD) are within a 5-10 minute drive to KICC. You can book a ride through local taxi services, Uber, or Bolt.
  • Hotel Shuttle: Many hotels offer shuttle services or can arrange transportation for their guests

  • Nairobi Matatu Routes: You can board Matatus heading to Nairobi City Center (CBD). The closest drop-off points are Kencom Bus Station, Ambassador Hotel Bus Stop, or GPO (General Post Office) Stage.
  • Walking from Matatu Stops: From these drop-off points, it is a short 5-10 minute walk to KICC.
  • KICC Parking: Limited paid parking is available within the KICC premises. Early arrival is recommended to secure parking.
  • Nearby Parking Options:
    • Harambee Avenue: Street parking is available along Harambee Avenue.
    • City Hall Parking: Paid parking is also available near City Hall, a short walk to the KICC.
  • KICC Tower: The 28-story iconic building is visible from most parts of the city and is known for its cylindrical shape and rooftop helipad.
  • Adjacent Landmarks:
    • The Parliament Buildings are located nearby.
    • The Kenya National Archives and City Hall are other recognizable landmarks within walking distance.
  • Security at KICC: Expect security checks at the entrance. Carry your conference badge or registration confirmation for easier access.
  • Arrival Time: It’s recommended to arrive at least 30 minutes before the start of conference sessions to allow time for security and registration.
  • Nearby Amenities: ATMs, restaurants, and coffee shops are available within walking distance for convenience.
